Admissions Appeals
When the local authority or school has informed a parent / carer of the decision to refuse their child a place at the school, the parent / carer has the right to appeal.
The office of the Schools Adjudicator (OSA) states that Parents do not have an entitlement to choose a place at a school in any particular Ofsted category, or for that matter, the school closest to their home, of a particular religious character or other specific characteristic. Parents express a preference for a school and if that school is oversubscribed, criteria are used to determine which children are offered places and which are not.
OSA judgements carry the force of law, so neither the local authorities nor schools are legally allowed to consider anything irrelevant to the oversubscription criteria when awarding school places. Details of our oversubscription criteria can be found in our admissions policy.
We would like to make parents aware that when an appeal is lodged there are considerable costs involved, which are borne by the school from our existing budget.
Appeals can be made online via the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead’s website or via email to democratic.services@rbwm.gov.uk.
