Local Parent Support and Training / Special Interest Groups for Young People

GEMS –  a central parenting service that provide pre-assessment and post diagnostic support for children, young people and adults with autism and/or ADHD and their families in East Berkshire.

Parenting Special Children - support Berkshire families who have children and young people with special needs. They provide a diagnosis support service, sleep service and parenting service including training workshops.

The Autism Group – can offer home visits and training workshops for parents/carers and activities for children with a diagnosis of autism aged 11-25 in a mainstream educational setting.

Support for Siblings

 

Family Action Young Carers – they can provide support for the siblings of children with autism. They can provide 1:1 and/or family support sessions and well-being groups for the children. Ages: 5-18.

SIBS

A UK charity for siblings. They have an online information service for children and young people aged 7-17, who have a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long-term condition.

Information and Advice

 

Information, Advice and Support Service (IAS) – Impartial support for children and young people with additional needs and their parents. A free and confidential service that can provide information, advice and support relating to special educational needs and disability (SEND).

Outdoor activities and clubs

 

Camp Mohawk – This is a provision you can access as a family or just for your child with autism. They are a multi-functional day centre set in 5 acres of countryside and can offer lots of different activities. You will need to register to access and they get booked up very quickly so if you would like to use during the summer you would need to register asap.

OT and Speech and Language

 

Children and Young People’s Integrated Therapies (CYPIT) – this is where you can refer for an Occupational Therapist or a Speech and Language therapist. There are also lots of different strategies available online via the CYPIT Toolkit.

Sleep

 

Cerebra – They are a charity for children with brain related conditions and offer support in a number of areas. They will do home visits and advise on sleeping issues.
